Last night's, 'Evening of Adventure' - organised and hosted by the ANZEC - Australia & New Zealand Explorers Club Chapter - was, as always, a superb event.

As well as two outstanding presentations - the first, by Dr Gareth Andrews, on the grueling, 66-day, trek across the Antarctic earlier this year: and the second by, Dr Kate Leeming, on her many extreme cycling expeditions, and her projected first crossing of Antarctica by bicycle - one of the members, Ed Punchard (one of the divers who had survived the 1988 Piper Alpha oil rig explosion) had journeyed from Western Australia to attend the event.

The Australia & New Zealand Chapter of the Explorers Club (ANZEC) is proud to announce the next ANZEC Evening of Adventure in Sydney. This intimate evening is open to all members and non-members and will include stimulating presentations from Antarctic adventurer Gareth Andrew and extreme cyclist Dr. Kate Leeming.

In World War II Japan and Australia fought for control of the seas north of Australia. The I-124 Japanese submarine was laying mines and hunting ships outside Darwin Harbour when it was engaged by Australian forces. Watch this documentary made by ANZEC members.

A new year and new expeditions on the horizon! I am very excited to welcome you all to the first blog for Breaking the Cycle Antarctica.

Supported by sustainable travel company White Desert, the mission is to cycle across Queen Maud Land on the edge of the Antarctic Plateau, from Wolf’s Fang Camp (1130m elevation; 71o 32’ 00” S 8o 50’ 00” E) to Whichaway Camp (100m elevation; 70o 48’ 00” S 11o 23’ 00” E).

As many of our members are aware, Anthony Gordon and his team (Dive Instructor – Sam James & Photographer Nathan Roderick) were producing Aliquam 3 over the New Years break.

Each year, The Explorers Club 50 recognizes fifty extraordinary individuals changing the world. Naming these global exploration leaders to the EC50 shines a bright light on their extraordinary work, amplifies their voices, and redefines that field of exploration as we know it.

True Spirit is a biography based on the real-life adventure of treasured ANZEC member Jessica Watson, who at the age of 16 became the youngest person to sail solo, non-stop, and unassisted around the world.

We are proud to announce that treasured ANZEC member has been award with an Order of Australia. Kate has achieved so much already in her career as an adventurer, explorer, author, producer and educator. 

In a triumph of mental and physical resilience and the spirit of adventure we reached the Geographic South Pole at 6.30pm on the 18th January extremely proud to have completed the grueling 1400 kilometer journey from the very edge of the Antarctic continent.
