Event Report - ANZEC Evening of Adventure in Sydney – 13 July 2022
The rain didn’t stop members of friends of the Australia and New Zealand Chapter of The Explorers Club together at their clubhouse the Balmoral boathouse at Sydney to hear a series of stunning presentations. First to present was Anthony Gordon who provided an update on the ANZEC first expedition documentary 12 Shades of Grey, about the true nature of Great White Sharks. 12 Shades of Grey documentary has been the recipient of many international awards and most recently was awarded with “Best Short Film” at the New York Science & Nature Film Festival.
Anthony was followed by Robin Crisman who presented ANZEC’s next expedition, The ANZEC Aussie Ark Expedition which will be held on the 16-18 of September. Aussie Ark holds and breeds the largest mainland population of devils, producing over 300 Tasmanian Devil joeys since its inception. During this expedition, ANZEC Members will participate in the program running at Aussie Ark whilst film maker Anthony Gordon will be producing another ANZEC documentary. By the end of the evening the expedition was booked out.
We were also honored by the attendance of Emerald Nash, the Head of Grants from The Explorers Club in New York who made a presentation about the club and its collections, the flags and grants, our members past and present, and the importance of our Chapters.
And finally our key presenter was Dr. Richard “Harry” Harris who gave a detailed presentation of The Castleguard Cave Diving Expedition in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta, Canada. You can view the video o Dr. Harris’s presentation here.
At the end of the evening Emerald Nash presented Dr. Harris with “The Explorers Club Presidential Award for Heroism and Altruism” on behalf of past presidents Richard Wiese for his contribution to rescuing 12 boys and their coach in what has become known as the Thai Cave Rescue.
