ANZEC EC50 Dinner featured in Presidents Video Report

I am excited to share with you the latest edition of the Presidents Video Report and important Club updates from TEC President Richard Garriott.

I am proud to let you know that our upcoming ANZEC EC50 Science dinner has been featured at 3 minutes and 10 seconds. Also, ANZEC Expedition Manager Jayne Jenkins has also been recognized at 10 minutes 10 seconds for her work on a documentary about conservation in remote areas. This is part of a 3-month expedition with this segment produced in the Philippines.

If you had been on Macquarie Street in Sydney on September 21 1874, you may have seen two burly men carry another on a chair from the Australian Museum and throw him out on to the street. The unfortunate was Gerard Krefft, the museum’s curator. Six years earlier, Krefft had described the reef manta ray to science from a specimen collected in Watson’s Bay. ANZEC Member Bryan Fry discovers Gigantic new snake species in Amazon rainforest

Scientists working in the Amazon rainforest have discovered a new species of snake, rumored to be the biggest in the world.

A team headed by Bryan Fry from from the University of Queensland traveled to the Ecuadorian Amazon to search for the previously undocumented northern green anaconda (Eunectes akayima), following an invitation from the Waorani people to observe anacondas “rumoured to be the largest in existence,” according to the scientists…Read More

Record attendees at ANZEC Event enjoy presentations by Dr. Leeming and Dr. Andrews

Last night's, 'Evening of Adventure' - organised and hosted by the ANZEC - Australia & New Zealand Explorers Club Chapter - was, as always, a superb event.

As well as two outstanding presentations - the first, by Dr Gareth Andrews, on the grueling, 66-day, trek across the Antarctic earlier this year: and the second by, Dr Kate Leeming, on her many extreme cycling expeditions, and her projected first crossing of Antarctica by bicycle - one of the members, Ed Punchard (one of the divers who had survived the 1988 Piper Alpha oil rig explosion) had journeyed from Western Australia to attend the event.
