Last weeks, 'Evening of Adventure' - organised and hosted by the ANZEC - Australia & New Zealand Explorers Club Chapter - was, as always, a superb event.

As well as two outstanding presentations - the first, by Dr Gareth Andrews, on the gruelling, 66-day, trek across the Antarctic earlier this year: and the second by, Dr Kate Leeming, on her many extreme cycling expeditions, and her projected first crossing of Antarctica by bicycle - one of the new members, Ed Punchard (one of the divers who had survived the 1988 Piper Alpha oil rig explosion) had journeyed from Western Australia to attend the event.

We were also blessed with the attendance of new members including Mina Guli from the Thirst Foundation, nominated as one of the top 50 most influential people in the world by Fortune Magazine. James McAlloon from Chimu Adventures, an extreme trekker. Julia Averbuch, a valued student member from the United States, Lisa Blair who recently broke the world record for circumnavigation Antarctica, and Chrissie Goldrick, the Chair of The Australian Geographic Society.

It was a splendid evening. One filled with memories and catch-ups with so many inspirational figures.
