Evening of Adventure - Sydney

The Australia & New Zealand Chapter of the Explorers Club (ANZEC) is proud to announce the next ANZEC Evening of Adventure in Sydney.

This intimate evening is open to all members and non-members and will include stimulating presentations from shark researcher Natasha D. Marosi and solo sailor and Antarctic circumnavigator Lisa Blair.

The Sharks That Saved The Reef by Natasha D, Marosi

Located off the southern coast of Viti Levu, the Shark Reef Marine Reserve is a sanctuary for sharks.  Originally created to protect and restore a fragile and dying ecosystem, the Reserve is now a shark diving phenomenon with over 450 species of fish, 8 different species of sharks and the largest aggregate of visiting Bull Sharks in the world.  But Fiji’s First National Marine Park is much more than just an ecotourism site, it has and continues to offer incredible opportunities for research, conservation, education and inspiration all while providing a critical financial boon for the local community.

Natasha D. Marosi is the Conservation Director of Beqa Adventure Divers, the architects behind the creation of Shark Reef.  She is the founder of the conservation initiative ‘My Fiji Shark’ and currently conducting PhD Research on sociality and personality in Bull Sharks.  Natasha has devoted her life to the research, advocacy and protection of the shark populations in Fiji.

Lisa Blair Sail the World by Lisa Blair

n 2017, When Lisa's mast came crashing down in a storm while on her first Antarctica record attempt she was thrust into a do-or-die survival situation, fighting to save her boat Climate Action Now in storm conditions with a broken mast. Pushed beyond her limits Lisa was tested again and again.

Enjoy a thrilling story as Lisa recounts her epic voyages around Antarctica where she regularly faced snow storms and blizzards, 100 km/h winds and waves the height of a 5 story building and nearly didn't live to tell the tale.

Lisa pushed past her fears and self doubt to go back to the Southern Ocean and challenge the record again in 2022 where she survived for 92 days solo in the world's most dangerous ocean, taking 10 days off the original record and becoming the fastest person, first woman and third person in history to complete this voyage.
