ANZEC is proud to announce the next ‘ANZEC Evening of Adventure’ in Melbourne to be held at the stunning Sun Theatre, conveniently located at Yarraville from 6:30pm on Wednesday, 15th November 2017.

Open to all members and non-members, this stimulating evening will include presentations from solar pioneer Tony Vriens and Polar Explorer Eric Philips. They will talk about their experiences and discoveries in two vastly different but equally challenging environments. You will also have the opportunity to meet and talk with other like-minded adventurers on the night.

Tony Vriens present “At the Speed of Light”

Solar Car Racer and Designer, Tony Vriens is at the leading edge of Solar car design

He has been designing, constructing and operating solar powered electric racing Vehicles since 1992.

As the longest serving member  of the Aurora Solar Racing Team, Tony has set  12 world records, including the longest solar car journey (13,054 km around Australia in 24 days), and world speed record 132.1 km/h (Average) for 100km.

Tony will share his knowledge of the rapid advances in solar car technology and share some of his exciting stories from solar car races around Australia.

 

 

Eric Philips presents “Deep Freeze. Exploring the coldest places on Earth”

For over twenty-five years Eric Philips has been undertaking pioneering expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctica and in 2002, together with friend Jon Muir, became the first Australian to ski to both the North and South Poles. His passion for ice and cold has also taken him across icecaps in Greenland (twice), Ellesmere Island, Iceland, Svalbard and Southern Patagonian, and to Macquarie and Heard Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula. Eric has pioneered two new routes through the Transantarctic Mountains to the South Pole and set to make a third this year.

Eric is a Master Polar Guide and a co-founder of the International Polar Guides Association. He has guided over twenty-five expeditions to both poles and in 2013 guided Prince Harry to the South Pole. In 2004 Eric was awarded an OAM for services to polar exploration and in 2015 received the Australian Geographic Society’s Lifetime of Adventure award.
