The Explorers Club: Evening of Adventure – Thursday 1 March 2018

The Australia & New Zealand Chapter of the Explorers Club (ANZEC) is proud to announce our next ‘ANZEC Evening of Adventure’ in Sydney.

An Evening of Adventure’ will be held at the stunning Balmoral Boathouse from 6:30pm on Thursday, 1 March 2018 (Presentations start at 7pm).

Open to all members and non-members, this stimulating evening will include presentations from three pioneering adventurers: Capt. Sophie Hollingsworth, Justin and Lauren Jones (The Jonesys). They will talk about their experiences and discoveries in two vastly different but equally challenging environments. You will also have the opportunity to meet and talk with other like-minded adventurers on the night.

Capt. Sophie Hollingsworth – “What’s left to Explore?”
With the world’s tallest peaks climbed and the depths of the ocean reached, what is left to explore? Today, exploration is about increasing our knowledge and understanding of the world we live in. We all face the same challenges: food, water, and shelter. Yet given the common challenges, the range of cultural adaptation is extraordinary. Based on adventures and misadventures in remote regions of the Earth, Sophie celebrates the diversity of the world’s most remote cultures.

Sophie is a former ballerina turned award winning explorer; Sophie is The Explorers Club 2017 New Explorer of the Year Awardee and a Fulbright Scholar. Her passion for exploration and discovering indigenous ways of life has led her undertake descents of uncharted rivers in Madagascar, desert transects in Namibia, and ethnographic research in Vanuatu. Sophie’s work has been showcased by National Geographic and the United Nations.

Heading Outback – “A Family Adventure”
The Jonesys are modern day adventurers who believe you shouldn’t have to choose between having a family life and having an adventurous life. They value experiences over possessions, have a love for adventure, nature, travel and just enjoy getting outside. In 2017, Lauren, Morgan and Justin walked over 1600km over 102 days from the centre of Australia to the coast. As a family they crossed over some of Australia’s more extreme and terrain with the aim to live more consciously and connect to Australian country, people and each other.
