John Cherry is currently working as a junior doctor in rural Australia, having previously worked as a high school science teacher and trained as a helicopter pilot and astrophysicist. While working as a teacher John ran science projects for his students at Union Glacier (Antarctica), Mauna Loa (Hawaii) and aboard a 'zero-gravity' aircraft (USA).

As part of his study of medicine John has worked with the Polar Medicine Unit of the Australian Antarctic Division, spent time working with NASA's Space Medicine Division at the Johnson Space Centre in the United States, and worked for the European Space Agency's Space Medicine Office.

John has also travelled extensively working on extended environmental projects in Costa Rica and conservation projects in Belize.
